If there was any doubt that the PN is digging deep and hard to rally all the possible resources just have a look at the recent news headlines. Many close to the Party have told me that this election will not be a ‘walk-over’. The PN they said, has always shown itself to be at its best when cornered.
Apart from the fact that no one likes to lose an election, this election is more significant on so many levels for the PN;
- Firstly, this is the first time in some 3 decades that the PN has proper opposition, in terms of an organised party that is well set for an election ‘battle’.
- Secondly, this is an election versus the PL but also versus Franco Debono and to a lesser extent JPO and Jesmond Mugliette, the lost and ostracized sheep. The PN has been hit by its own. In my opinion, this has (re)turned a number of supporters who have drifted away from the Party to be born-again Nationalists.
- Thirdly, this is an opportunity for many new people in the (Nationalist) Party to show that with the loss of people like Guido de Marco, Austin Gatt, Louis Galea, Louis Deguara, Dolores Cristina, UMB, EFA and so many other ‘generals’, the Party is still there for the taking and that they can fill ‘their’ shoes.
- Fourthly, the no-confidence votes in CMB and now in Joe Cassar have pissed-off the PM big-time. It looks like he’s had enough. It is a renowned fact that love him or loathe him, the PM is extremely loyal to his team and knowing him, this has spurned him to give more of himself to make sure that ‘justice’ be done.
I have been saying this for a long time.
A longish campaign is not to the advantage of the PL. The PL, if not careful, will waste its ammunition and will be left with an opponent that is all up and raring to go.
I still think that even though the PL leads the polls at the moment, the PN has the advantage of being in Government.
I believe this election will be decided in the last straight. It will be the party with the best endurance that will make the finish-line first.

This is what makes an election exciting – the parties will keep pulling out one rabbit after another from their hats…
Jien kritikajt bil kbir it tmexxija tal Gonzi u hekk se nibqa naghmel ghax ma nahsibx hu mexxej tajjeb. Pero l kampanja diga bdiet u bil mod il labour beda jghid il kretinati u jispara ghall siequ. Nistennew u naraw. Nahseb tkun elezzjoni vicin. Naqbel 100% li iktar ma se ntawlu issa l pn jigwadanja jista peress li l PL jsieb numru ta esponenti mhux hazin li jibdew jghidu l hmerijiet

Int biss serjeta Malcolm? Daqs kemm ilhom jghidu u jaghamlu kretinati il-membri tal-partit fil-Gvern we all lost count. It seems that down deep what irks people like yourself is that you are not one of the clique, the failures of this government mean little to you. What’s important is that Gonzi jtir min hemm halli nergghu hbieb kif konna u barra bid daqq. kont naghmlek aktar inteligenti!

Jien nahseb li wasal iz-zmien fejn il-Labour jaghmel programm politiku bis-sens u japproffitta miz-zelqiet li ghamel dal gvern, u gvernijiet ta’ qabblu taht il-PN. Izda minflok, u din li ma nistax nifhem, il-PL jaghmel propoganda biss ta’ tajn u ta’ proposti li jezistu biss f’Utopia, ghax b’dak li qed jghid li ha jaghmel kif jitla fil-gvern tibda tahseb li l-kaxxa ta’ Malta ghandikun ma fihix qiegh…imma fl-istess hin ha jnaqqas id-deficit….hawwadni ma nifhmek, ijja hasra li Oppozizzjoni denja ghad m’hemmx, u fuq dan il-punt ma naqbilx ma dan l-artiklu fuq ‘PN has proper opposition’.

Carl, min ghandu widnejn biex jisma u mohh biex jifhem u jarbel, ghandu jagharaf li il politika ta’ GonziPN qed twassal lil bosta nies, familji u negozji lejn ix xifer. Jekk trid tibqa tghid li ma hemmx oppozizjoni denja, affarik, the writing is on the wall. Pero li tibqa bhal ostric b’rasek fir ramel, anzi illum aktar nghid fil hama, semplicement ghax il-partit tieghek qed jissugerilek dan, ma nifhimiex. Jghidu li il poplu immatura, pero kummenti bhal tieghek, ghalkemm kulhadd ghandu trid ghall opinjoni, ma jregux.

Il partiti (PL u PN) saru wisq vicin xulxin. Jafu li l hardcore ha tibqa taghhom, u l floaters huma dawk li jridu jigbdu lejn l partit, ovjament ghal vot. L paroli li jsir fil- meetings ma jfisser xejn, kif darba qal Dr. Gonzi, igudikawni bli nghamel u mhux bli nghid. Kif jghid tajjeb l- artiklu hawn fuq, il- PN mhux ha jghati walk over fl- elezzjoni li jmiss, is sahha tal- PN hija l media, u fil- jiem li gejjien ha nergaw naraw hnizrijiet li kien ilhom snien ma jkolna.

can labour party please enlighten me on what his ideas on governing malta are? i have been asking this question to myself for a long time and yet all i am hearing are empty words. Billboards, and a good pr do not impress me at all. what i am after is the substance. It is true that PN has done mistakes but it is also true that despite everything it has governed quite well in these last five years. let us not forget that economic crisis is biting hard all over europe but till now, here in Malta, it is not so bad. My main worry is wheter the labour party, if in government, is able to steer our beloved country through the various economic storms which we still have to face. TILL NOW I VERY MUCH DOUBT IT.
